Site Preparation and Grading
Site Preparation and Grading in Waco
Before a foundation crew can pour, a raw parcel has to be shaped to the engineer’s grading plan, and that is where Artintheamericas starts. We strip and stockpile the topsoil, balance cut and fill across the lot, and grade rough to finish so pad elevations, drainage slopes, and the compacted subgrade all match the plan. Get the earthwork right and everything built on top of it goes smoother.
Why Grading Comes First
Central Texas shrink-swell clay moves with moisture, so a pad that is not graded and compacted correctly will crack whatever sits on it. A poured slab off Valley Mills Drive is only as stable as the subgrade under it. We set positive slope away from the building envelope so stormwater sheds off the pad instead of collecting against a footing, which is the single most common drainage failure we get called to fix after the fact.
Our Process
We call 811 for utility locates, strip the topsoil and stockpile it for later respread, then cut and fill to the plan elevations with laser or GPS grade control. Imported structural fill goes down in controlled lifts and gets compacted to 95 percent of maximum dry density, verified by a Proctor test. We keep silt fence and inlet protection up for stormwater compliance and hand back a staked, sloped, load-ready pad.
