Scott Stoll

Sculptor

Scott Stoll has woven a sculpting career parallel with many years of working in the health and human service fields (VISTA-NYC, Peace Corps-Guatemala, the homeless in New England, and most recently as a psychiatric nurse working with adolescents in Boston). His sculpture has been exhibited in many shows throughout ME and MA and in Europe. Scott is currently represented at Gleason Fine Art of Boothbay and Portland, Maine and L’Attitude gallery in Boston. He has attended the Julia and David White Artist Colony in Costa Rica, where he also participated in a National Sculpture Symposium. Fluency in Spanish allowed him the opportunity to meet many prominent artists of Costa Rica’s vibrant art community. Most recently, Scott has created new wood sculptures in Guatemala and is represented by La Antigua, Galleria de Arte in the world heritage city of Guatemala. He received a nomination for the Florence Biennale and was selected as one of 7 American artists that showed with 7 European artists in Salzburg, Austria at the Ache 700 Cultural Center in September of 2005. He also presented a slide show and lecture of his sculpture at the American Embassy in Vienna. Scott has taken bronze casting at the Maine College of Art and drawing classes at the Art Student’s Leagues of Boston and New York. About his work he says, “There exists a nearly universal and powerful attraction for certain forms that evolve in nature. Whether found in bones, shells, or stones, these natural forms draw us into a primordial relationship which awakens our senses; beckoning us to become more fully present, to transcend the strictly visual and engage in a kind of emotionally sensuous interaction with the form.”
