Artist Statement I have been a great admirer of the feminine force and strength, an admiration that became even stronger when I accompanied my mother who was sick with cancer and I had the satisfaction of seeing her working in her office until just a week before her last stay in the hospital. She and many friends who have struggled with this disease, have demonstrated their inner strength and beauty, not only of the soul, but also physically, a sheen in her eyes that stood out even more than the turbans they had to use. Some won the battle, others did not. This strength with which women face and overcome the problems imposed by life, inspired me for a show, entitled "Of Women and Secrets". I grew up near strong independent women, travelers, hard workers, who have influenced my work as an artist. The women I paint are intense, both in love and deceived, at times overflowing with joy, other times alone and melancholic, waiting for that love we all desire and which perhaps, will never come. They are women without a defined face, universal females who we identify with in some way.
