Francisco Auyon, 1968-2007
Francisco Auyon's works are often mysterious and subtle but contain a definite regional and therefore personal message. Auyon's works on paper and his larger works in oil all utilize indefinite figures and objects under luminous lights and sometimes tragic, pleading stances. He was born in Guatemala in 1968. He studied for five years at the National School of Fine Arts beginning in 1984 and subsequently spent two years learning in the workshop of the renowned Guatemalan artist, Elmar R. Rojas. He has been a part of group and individual exhibitions both in his native country and internationally throughout the decade of the 1990s and 2000s. Francisco Auyón was the winner of the Tlahcuilo Prize at the First Biennial of Painting of the Central American Isthmus. He died November 23, 2007.
