Daniel Chauche
Daniel Chauche, born 1951, in the United States of French parents. He studied zoology, but discovered his true vocation: photography. Chauche moved to Guatemala in 1976, eventually settling in Old Guatemala in 1984. In 1987 he began his series
"on white background" going to each community, photographing the residents that wished to participate. Thus he has portrayed hundreds of Guatemalans. His photography represents 20 years visiting the diverse communities of the country, and reflects the unique and authentic identity of the Guatemalan.
Daniel Chauche studied photography at the University of Florida Where in 1979 he obtained a Master's Degree in Fine Arts. His interest is focused basically in psychology and anthropology. He has been showing his work since 1974. His activity as an artist in Guatemala started in 1976. Currently he lives in the colonial town of Antigua, Guatemala. Since 1983 he has directed "Light and Dark," a studio devoted to commercial and illustrative photography, and where he also provides private lessons. He has shown in most of the important galleries and museums in Guatemala. He has maintained constant activity as a professor teaching many of the Guatemalan photographers of the current generation. Photographing the character of Guatemala is his most passionate task.
